TCI Press offers three methods
for sending your files. The preferred method is to use an industry
standard FTP client (See sidebar, 'What is FTP?' ) to send and retrieve
files. If you cannot use an FTP client, then you can use our Web-based
file transfer system to upload a file to our server without using
an FTP Client or for smaller files you may send an e-mail attachment.

1) FTP Client Software (Preferred)
This method requires that you have FTP client software installed
on your system. FTP is the most reliable protocol for transferring
files across the internet. Macintosh (OS 9.x) users may download
Fetch,
Macintosh (OS X) users may download Transmit
(evaluation edition) and Windows (98/Me/NT/2000/XP) users may download
WS_FTP
Pro (evaluation edition). Contact your TCI Press sales represenative
to get the login information needed by your FTP client software
to use this file transfer method.
2) Web Browser
Users may upload files via their web browser by visiting http://70.91.132.57/login.
We recommend that you compress your files/folder into one archive
file (see sidebar, 'Sending Multiple files?').You'll be be prompted
for your login information. Please enter the login information supplied
by your TCI Press sales representative.
3) E-mail Attachment
Smaller files totalling 2MB OR LESS may be sent
as e-mail attachments to graphics@tcipress.com.
NOTE: to minimize upload times and to protect against file corruption,
files sent as attachments MUST BE compressed into .ZIP or .SIT/.HQX
file format. Please DO NOT send e-mail attachments to ANY OTHER
of our e-mail addresses.
What is FTP?
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.
FTP client software allows you to transfer files between your
hard drive and our in-house FTP server.
Ever wonder what "http" stands for
in all of the Web sites you access with your Web browser?
Hypertext Transfer Protocol is how your browser transfers
files from remote web servers to graphically display web content
on your monitor. Although HTTP does a good job of downloading
HTML files and the small bitmaps displayed within them, it
was never designed to transfer large files. However, with
FTP, you can upload/download large files and resume transfer
after interruptions, where you left off, saving time and aggravation. |

Sending multiple files?
Macintosh Users - multiple files/folders
should be compressed into a single .SIT or .HQX file before
uploading to minimize upload times and to protect against
file corruption. We recommend using Stuffit® from Aladdin
Systems. The software is available as a free time-limited
trial from www.aladdinsys.com.
Windows PC Users - multiple files/folders should
be compressed into a single .ZIP file before uploading to
minimize upload times and to protect against file corruption.
We recommend WinZip® from WinZip Computing. The software
is available as a free time-limited trial from www.winzip.com
IMPORTANT:
BE SURE TO INCLUDE ALL FONTS and ALL IMAGES used in your project
in your .ZIP or STUFFIT (.SIT or .HQX) file! |
